Job Description: 

Under general supervision, performs all activities to operate and maintain the biological treatment process, chemical treatment, mechanical functions and labor operations of the wastewater treatment plant. Must be able to work various shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays. 

Responsibilities Include: 
  • Monitors and operates wastewater treatment plant equipment such as pumps, valves, motors, filters, gauges, and meters to ensure proper functioning of the wastewater plant and sewage lift stations
  • Monitors the flow of wastewater, dissolved oxygen concentration and ammonia concentration to make adjustments to treatment process.
  • Monitors and operated bio-solids dewatering equipment as needed.
  • Collects wastewater samples and interprets lab results to make process adjustments.
  • Maintains daily records and monthly reports on wastewater operations.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work area in and around all the plant processes and buildings.
  • Completes preventative and corrective maintenance work orders on pumps, motors air blowers and other equipment in a timely manner.
  • Informs supervisor of all problems, deviations and unfamiliar situations.
  • Assists other coworkers as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 
Education/Experience: 

High school graduation, or its equivalent, plus one (2) year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical, criminal background and MVR check Applicants without TCEQ licenses may be required to pass a basic math skills test

  • Methods, practices and standards for compliance to wastewater treatment regulations
  • Tools and equipment used in operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities
  • Occupational health and safety rules and regulations
  • Monitoring plant operations and identifying maintenance and safety concerns
  • Reading and interpreting gauges and re-coding devices
  • City policies and procedures
  • Effective oral and written communications
  • Utilizing on the job technical and safety training
  • Ability to verbally communicate clearly and concisely to ensure on-the-job safety

Must possess State of Texas Class C driver’s license Must possess a Class C Wastewater license from Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). Must be able to obtain Class B Wastewater license from Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) within two (2) years of hire

Work Environment: 

Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  • Work is performed in Wastewater Treatment Plant
  • May be subject to bending, reaching, kneeling and lifting such as retrieving and replacing materials, supplies, and heavy equipment
  • Physical dexterity is required to work in confined spaces and use precision tools and equipment
  • May be subject to exposure to extreme weather conditions, hazardous chemicals and fumes, odor/dust and other solid waste substances.
  • Must be able to lift up to 85 pounds
