Responsibilities Include: 
  • Recommending a disposition in formal court proceedings
  • Providing to the court, written social history reports
  • Acting as the primary supervising officer for court ordered and deferred prosecution cases
  • Developing and implementing case plans
  • Conducting intake interviews and preliminary investigations
  • Making detention and release decisions as authorized by the Texas Family Code
  • Taking youth into custody as authorized by the Texas Family Code
  • Referring youth as necessary to local MHMR authority as required by Texas Family Code
  • Conducting office, school, and home visits with the youth and family
  • Visiting youth in residential placement facilities
  • Conducting after hour supervision and curfew checks
  • Explaining to the youth and parents about juvenile records and the record sealing process
  • Providing youth and parents with written explanation about records and sealing process
  • On call duties after work hours and on weekends
  • Supervising programs as assigned after work hours / on weekends 
Special Skills/Abilities/Knowledge: 
  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Be of good moral character
  • Have no disqualifying criminal history
  • Have acquired a Bachelor’s degree conferred by an accredited college or university
  • Possess 1 year work experience in a related field OR graduate study
  • Never have had any type of certification revoked by TJJD
  • Complete the training required by TJJD
  • Pass the certification exam as required by TJJD
  • Possess a valid Texas driver’s license and have dependable transportation
  • Have flexible availability, and be able to travel out of the county for periods exceeding 24 hours to maintain continuing education hours
  • Possess a working knowledge of computers
  • Have the ability to organize workload and time
  • Have the ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public and work within a team structure
  • Have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
