Job Description: 
Responsible for mixing, matching, and applying paint to various surfaces, completing touchups, and coordinating large painting projects. 
Responsibilities Include: 
  • Mix, match and apply paint
  • Scrape, sandpaper, prime, or seal surfaces prior to painting.
  • Clean surfaces to ensure proper adherence.
  • Cover surfaces with cloth or plastic to ensure protection.
  • Calculate amounts of required materials and estimate costs.
  • Fill cracks, holes and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other fillers.
  • Apply several coats according to paint directions.
  • Tape off areas where needed
  • Apply touchups or second coats.
  • Clean all equipment, including brushes, spray guns, and work areas.
  • Operates compressors, sandblasters, spray equipment, and other small power equipment.
  • Utilize spray guns for large jobs.
  • Erects various types of scaffolding, staging, ladders, and planks to reach high areas.
  • Applies paints, surface preparatory materials, and undercoating materials as appropriate, and according to Material Safety Data Sheets ensuring compliance with hazardous materials guidelines.
  • Identification, safe handling, and appropriate disposal of paints, preparatory and undercoating materials, and other hazardous materials.
  • Creation and application of graphics and signage according to requirements to meet state and federal regulations. 

Completion of a three year federally approved technical training program in painting and three years of painting experience; OR, Six years of painting experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. 

Special Skills/Abilities/Knowledge: 
  • Knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials, and application techniques common to the painting trade.
  • Knowledge and skill in hazardous materials handling, application, and disposal.
  • Knowledge of text and display requirements for signage applications.
  • Skill in the preparation and application of paints, stains, and surface preparation materials to a wide variety of surfaces.
